Abortion: A Question of Choice?
I recently received the following e-mail from a person that had been in an online discussion with a mother’s group. She asked for my response on a statement that had been made. The e-mail is pasted below (with names omitted), and my response is below that. It is sad to see how Satan has deceived women into the killing of their children, and believing it to be completely amoral and without consequence.

Pastor Wynn,Can you give me some verses about abortion? A mommy on the (discussion) group wants more than you shall not kill. She said it is ok for a person to have one because it is their choice.

It seems that God’s command of “Thou shalt not kill” should be sufficient. However, the woman in your group seems to believe that an individual’s right to choice is enough to overrule God’s command. However, what about the choice of the baby?
Therefore, she needs to understand that the issue is a matter of when does life begin? According to God’s Word, life begins at conception (read Jeremiah 1:5; Isaiah 49:1, 5). The woman should understand an abortion is the same thing as murder, because it is the taking of a human life. No mother has the right of choice to kill her baby. Once society embraces that choice, then the debate would be. . .At what stage does killing a baby become the criminal act of murder. Of course, America is already on that dangerous slope.
Therefore, the news is full of articles of mothers killing their children. The woman should be able to explain why it is wrong to kill her baby once it is outside of the protective womb, and why it is right while still in the womb.
The truth is, it sounds as though she has accepted as fact the myth that the pre-born fetus is just a wad of embryonic tissue. Although every fact contradicts that assumption, there are still millions of women who adhere to that false philosophy. The fetus is a living, breathing human being that does not deserve to be killed.
Sadly, abortions are the sinful person’s way of trying to absolve themselves of the consequences of their actions. A woman’s choice is made when she decides to sleep with a man. She does not have a moral right to choose to kill the baby. It is also true that many women (even married women) chose abortion because a baby would be a financial or career inconvenience. How sad it is that a mother would put personal gain and comfort above the welfare of her child. This is what the Bible calls being “without natural affection” (Romans 1:31; II Timothy 3:3). It is natural for a mother to be willing to die to protect her child. o not have that kind of affection, is to fall within the category of the wicked and depraved as described in Romans 1:31 and Second Timothy 3:3.
